Dear mr. gladsworth,

      Thank you so much for the ham. Mama says that it is because of kind people like you that this family is still here. The weather has been a little cold lately, and we may have to bring the animals in early this year. Usually this is something that papa does, but i think this year, mama is going to have to let simon and i do it. You would be proud of simon, he is learning so many new tasks since things are different around here now, it is likely that we will not have to hire help for next years harvest (except for the bailing). I dont know though. I spoke to mr sheppard regarding the unused land, and he said that we wouldnt have to pay for it this year, but that after that, if we dont produce on it, we should probably trade it back for livestock. I will be sending simon up in a few weeks to pick up the rest of the shoes. If mama can finish them before the cold comes, i will be up there myself to pick them up.
